Upgrading to 1030 Firmware on Zenithink ZT-180
============ Update November 11, 2011 ============
The 1030 Firmware and the below method of upgrading the firmware are now obsolete. For the latest firmware version please see the blog post Upgrading to 1111 Firmware on Zenithink ZT-180 via TF Card
====================================================================
Zenithink ZT-180 1030 firmware has been released, tested and confirmed stable. This firmware modifies the project ID from p7901a to 1000ET, replaces the old calculator, modifies the calibrate position, changes office suite to English by default, and adds a few programs. Google Market continues to work excellently as a pre-installed app. Thus, there is no need to go through any additional steps in order to get the Market working other than just installing the firmware. Please note that all ZT-180s purchased from our website will have the latest firmware already installed.
In order to upgrade to the 1030 firmware first download the firmware here and then follow the instructional video below (please disregard any references to “0827″ and read-in “1030″ — the video tutorial works for any firmware upgrade or downgrade).
Download the latest 1030 firmware by clicking here and then carry out the steps below.
Step 1) Download the 1027 Zenithink ZT-180 firmware located here: ZT-180_1030fw.rar
Step 2) With the tablet turned off, connect it to your computer using the OTG (mini) USB port.
Step 3) Turn on the tablet by holding down the Menu button (circular button on front face) and then pressing the Power button (located on the top of tablet when holding horizontally). Your commputer will indicate that it has found new hardware. Locate the driver for the ZT-180 which is located in the “USB Drivers” folder within the .rar image which you downloaded in Step 1 above. Install the USB device using the driver located in the USB drivers folder (if you do not know how to to do this please watch the YouTube video above).
Step 4) Once the drivers are correctly installed, open “burntool_v.07.2.exe” (located in the .rar file from Step 1 above). If the device has connected properly you should see a green rectangle in the top left as indicated in the picture below

Step 5) Click on settings and you will be prompted to enter the location of the various image files which are contained in the .rar file from Step 1 above. In the boxes outline, browse to and select the various image files. When done, click on “Save” which is going to the question mark button on the left (in the center at the bottom).

Step 6) Click “Start” in the top left and your tablet will begin to flash with the new firmware. You will see the status bar load to 100% four times (takes a few minutes). Once the process is complete, in the status bar at the bottom it should say “UpdatePipeState: 0×600000f 6″

Step 7) Turn off your tablet by holding the Power button down for 10 seconds and then releasing it. Press the power button again to power up the tablet. Your firmware upgrade is complete.

Save the setings.
Start the pad via USB, Select the activated device and start..

may be an excellent tutorial, but I have no more WIFI since the upgrade
what am I suppose to do now?
December 16th, 2010 at 12:38 am
I’ve been trying repeatedly, but my ZT-180 will NOT update. The USB port on my computer shuts off after a short while, and only after a reboot will the ZT-180 once again be recognized. After the update process has (apparently) started there is NO activity what so ever on the status bar of the Burn Tool. I’ve tried and tried and tried. Frustrating!
December 16th, 2010 at 5:13 am
Did not work for me … I was told to re-flash to firmware version 1030. The tablet shipped with 1030 already. It did not seem to upgrade and I got errors when I used the burntool …. message says “[ERR: open_file read file[-1]] multiple times.
Upgrading the firmware was the suggestion I was given just to get Skype working. I am simply trying to use the table to make Skype-to-Skype calls using Wi-Fi. Still no luck as I hang at the signin screen. Don’t believe the firmware upgrade even happened.
Please help!
December 21st, 2010 at 10:14 pm
The process does not work for me.
Attempt on windows XP: when the ZT-180 boot process gets to the android splash screen, device uninstalls and is no longer visible to the burntool.
Attempt on windows 7: Endlessly sits at 0% telling me:
UpdateFileState: 0×10000000 1
ReadFile: 0×130
Over and over.
Need help troubleshooting.

I am running windows vista and it is a 32 bit operating system. I can make this work right up until burntool v07.2.
After it burns the first image, windows tells me that my device has malfunctioned and to plug it back in and if it’s not recognized that I should replace the device. at this point everything freezes.
This is as far as it gets:

Help! According to your tutorial ePad’s purchased through Zenithink USA site should have the latest software installed so it is not necessary to go through this process. I purchased it online through this site but my ePad is still freezing up when I turn it on. Would you please send me instructions on how I should proceed? Dan

I have the 1030fw installed and none of my mobile broadband stick work apart from my o2 stick and that comes up as cw mobile on the zt180 but it will not let me onto the internet or for that matter do anything. the dongle is a heiwai e162 which I was told would work with this unit. I have spoken to o2 and they say it is because it identifies itself as cw mobile it causes a conflict with the dongle rendering the device useless on the tablet. Any suggestions?

Does zhe upgrade of firmware works on win7?
January 25th, 2011 at 6:40 am
Excellent article for all who need to fix their ePad as long they know the screen resolution. Great job, easy to follow and it works like a charm. For all “experts” do not forget that system is clean and everything is wiped out.

I wish this business was in operation when I purchased my ZT-180 a few months ago.
Buying from China elicits a couple of big problems I didn’t think of. One being customs and the delay involved in checking the product before delivery and the big problem of defective merchandise and the return of the product to China.
It was a nightmare that is solved by this US company.
A few bucks more is well worth the gamble you will take from buying from a company in China that will fight you every step of the way in returning their broken tablet and the costs involved in shipping.

File names are diffrent in the current file. There are: zImage_1024x576 and zImage_1024x600.
The burntool_v07.2 sends error message “no open sdiofile!” when started, or setting clicked…
January 26th, 2011 at 11:49 pm
is there a 64 bit method if flashing the firmware? I got a ZT-180 and it is messed up out of the box… It won’t boot past the Penguin (It just sits on the “ANDROID _” screen forever and won’t boot. I checked around online and the consensus is to reflash the firmware to fix this problem but all my computers are 64bit OS so I can’t do anything. Please advise…
January 28th, 2011 at 12:41 am
Hi,I did what the tutorial said, but I o not get a green box in the burntool window. Now what?
January 30th, 2011 at 10:24 pm
I have downloaded the firmware update and thourghly read the tutorial for upgrading the Zenithink ZT-180 firmware.
I only have access to a Windows 7 64 bit computer. Therefore can not get the 32 bit USB driver to load. Is there a work around procedure or different driver available for Windows 7 64 bit computers?
My ZT -180 touch screen us not working properly. Every touch point is reversed from the UI graphics on the screen.
your help is greatly appreciated.

Dear Sir, I did all the steps, and everythink was like you show it. But after restart, I go to check Firmware version and still says android2.1-update1-20101030.
Is this the correct? shouldn’t be android 2.2?
Best Regards
February 2nd, 2011 at 9:41 am
i got the burntool loaded with the firmware files. but my tablet would not accept the usb drivers in android mode, in mass storage mode my pc said drivers were up to date. in other os mode. it defaulted to mass storage. in BOTH android os and mass storage mode. the burntool flashed white where there was the STEADY GREEN field that video stated meant all was well.
i think because drivers would not install in android os mode i couldnt connect right.

can’t wait for further upgrades

Android market problem, application hold on starting download . Cant download an application at all
February 7th, 2011 at 1:53 am
What can I do if, after install, when I turn the unit on, it appears the word “Android…” and nothing else happens?
February 7th, 2011 at 10:29 am
Sorry to inform you that the procedure you mentioned does not work on my machine:
I followed the tutorial as in the video, downloaded the device drivers:
http://www.toydeka.com/downloads/ZT-180_1030fw.zip
and tried to install these drivers manually, I unpacked the driver files and connected the device, I went to the device manager and under Other devices I found ‘android phone’, I rightclicked for properties -> update driver -> browse for location -> \ZT-180_1030fw\USB Drivers\
(and checked include subfolders)
Result:
Windows was unable to install your Android Phone
Windows could not find driver software for your device.
Then I tried to rightclick on the secbulk.inf file within the “USB Drivers” folder -> install -> Open
Result:
The INF-file you selected does not support this method of installation.
Within the included ReadMe.txt file no technical info was specified about the Operating System, so I presume it should work on all versions of the Ms Windows Family? The OS of the machine I am currently working on is a Ms Windows [Version 6.0.6001]
No installation procedure for installing Android on linux info was provided either within the readme file.
Any feedback please?
Dietmar
